Rhubarb
Ideal for planting in Autumn and Winter as bare root crowns. This year our crowns are bigger and better than ever (huge) and we have many different varieties.
Rhubarb Varieties Albert Good for forcing but can also be grown for prolonged cropping. Long pale crimson sticks. Introduced in 1840. Brandy Carr Scarlet Bred in West Yorkshire. Good for northern gardens. Good flavour. Later variety for late spring and summer cropping. Cawood Delight Originally bred near our nursery. Unsuitable for forcing. Most suited to growing outdoors where it produces high quality sticks of deep red colour. Recommended for use in pies. An early cropper. (Sorry but Cawood Delight is not currently available.) Fenton’s Special Mid season variety. Good for forcing. Deep red colour. High yield. Upright growth. Red Champagne Beautiful deep red colour. Mid season variety. Price includes 2 crowns. (Sorry, only available as plants this season.) Stockbridge Arrow Bred near us at Cawood. Named for the the shape of its leaf. Produces long thick stems of good quality. Upright habit. Suitable for forcing but not as early as Timperney Early. Timperley Early Good for forcing. Long, even thin stems of excellent deep colour. An early cropper.
