 Top Ten Herbs

1.  Angelica hispanica Spanish Angelica Perennial, Ht. 45cm.Unusual dwarf variety grown for evergreen glossy leaves that look wonderful all year, especially in winter.

2. Artemesia abrotanum Southernwood Hardy perennial /shrub Ht. 1m. Scented silvery feathery leaves. Used as moth repellent. Sunny position.

3.  Artemesia dracunculus  French Tarragon Hardy perennial, Ht. 90cm. Feathery leaves  used in cooking and have a superb taste. They are lovely with fish and in salad dressings. Grow in full sun, with good drainage. Grows well in containers.

4. 
Humulus lupulus  ‘Aureus’ Golden Hop Hardy climber. Ht. 4.5m. Attractive golden foliage with golden hops in early autumn.

5.  Mentha spicata ‘Russian’  Russian Mint  Ht. 50cm Purple flowers, leaves have the strongest traditional mint taste and an excellent flavour. Easy to grow in sun or shade.

6.  Apium graveolens, Parcel  Hardy perennial, looks like parsley, grows like parsley, but tastes of celery. Excellent in soups and salads.

7.  Origanum vulgare ssp. Hirtum Greek Oregano Hardy perennial, semi evergreen. Ht. 60cm. Tall white flowers loved by bees. The best for culinary use on pizzas. Grows in sun or part shade.

8.  Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Prostratus’ ‘Blue Rain’ Prostrate Rosemary  Prostrate habit, compact growth. Covered with deep coloured  blue flowers in spring. Very popular. Looks good in rockeries and trailing from ornamental chimney pots

9.  Salvia greggii ’Raspberry Royale’  Raspberry Sage  Semi evergreen shrub, Ht. 60cm. Foliage is scented raspberry. Stunning magenta flowers appear from May to October. Also known as Autumn sage. Grows best in full sun, with some shelter

10. Trifolium pratense ‘Susan Smith’  Variegated Red Clover Hardy Perennial, with semi evergreen habit. Creeping habit makes it good for ground cover. Ht. 15cm. Yellow veined leaves with pale pink flowers in summer. Good in hanging baskets. Reputedly high in oestrogen. Use leaves in salads
